What’s Our ‘Black Man As President’?

I’m watching the inauguration of Barack Obama here in my flat and trying to grasp exactly what this means. What it means for the future of my country and what it implies about the ability of Americans to remake ourselves. People are going nuts in DC and around the rest of the US. I’m really happy and exicted to see him take the oath.

But at the same time, this moment just isn’t so shocking to me. Awesome, yes. Noteworthy, of course. Inevitable, well kinda. If I were writing this even 50 years ago I’d have another tone. However growing up in the 80s, where I thought Bill Cosby was related to my grandfather because of how alike they were, I don’t think I would have ruled today out of things I’d see in my lifetime.

How impossible was this to 20-30 year olds in the 1950s? Now what do we think is impossible today? It’s kind of exciting. Thoughts rush through my head similar to when you play that game of ‘What would you do with a million dollars?’ So I ask the 10 people that follow my blog, whats gonna happen in 50 years to blow your mind?
